Registrars, hosting, and themes, oh my! There’s a lot involved in getting a website or blog up and running, and a lot more is involved when you want something professional. It can be a headache knowing what to order and what to avoid. We know, and we want to make it easy for you.
We’ve listed the four basic steps that you need to get the ball rolling. We suggest you contact us before ordering so that we can help you customize your oder to the exact specs that you need, because each order is unique.
1. Order Your Domain Name and Web Hosting Apple.com, Google.com, Amazon.com…those are all domain names. Your website needs a domain name, too. Web hosting is used to store your WordPress website or blog, files, photos, videos, and graphics in your own online folder that everyone will have access to see. It’s like storing your Word files and JPGs on a flash drive, except that flash drive is stored online.
You can order both a domain name and web hosting from HostGator or GoDaddy. Either company has products to suit your needs, however GoDaddy has a larger selection to choose from while HostGator offers a simpler process. Take our advice: order your domain name and web hosting in three- or five-year increments.
Choose from one or the other, but not both:
Optional. Skip this step if you already have a domain name and web hosting.
2. Order Your WordPress Solution: Basic or Premium
Let us know what kind of WordPress Website you want. If you want the Basic package we’ll set it up and turn it over to you ASAP. The Premium package is more involved and we’ll have to schedule a few meetings to work out all of the details. Mandatory. You’ll have to choose one package or the other, but not both.
3. Choose Your Theme: Basic or Premium
With the Basic package, you can use WordPress’ default theme (which is pretty nice, by the way) or choose from one of thousands and thousands of other free themes available. With the Premium package, you have to purchase a premium theme (you could use the default theme, or send us the theme that you want to use).
We can suggest a few professional themes for you, or you can browse through our preferred theme vendors’ websites for a theme. Take a look in the sidebar on the right for some great premium theme vendors. Mandatory. You’ll have to choose at least one theme.
4. Send us Your Files to Upload
We upload your files free of charge, so send us what you have. We’ll upload and place your articles as blog posts or pages; upload your photos, graphics, and videos into neatly arranged folders; and handle all of the cataloging for you. Optional. Skip this step if you don’t have any files to upload.
